How this works

Some details:

  • Sessions run for 90 minutes
  • My hourly rate is £50, so a single session is £75
  • We’ll use Google Meet to video conference (it works in your web browser, it’s free and very easy to use.)
  • In-person sessions will be available later.

The process?

Well, every couple starts with…

Session one: assessment part A

You can think of the first session as an informal “get to know each other” chat.

I’ll ask you what’s up, why you’re looking for help, and why now…

And, I’ll be interested in hearing the story of you two.

Data-gathering, if you will.

But also?

The first session gives us all a chance to see what we think of each other…

Which is important.

Because one of the biggest predictors of success in therapy is the relationship between client(s) and therapist.

So, if I’m not your cup of tea, then it’s wise to discontinue.

(This works both ways, of course –if I don’t think we’re a good match, I’ll say so.)

So that’s the first session.

Once finished, the ball will be in your court (to book the next session or not, I won’t chase you.)

Session two: assessment part B

For session two, I will chat with each of you separately.

So, when you book your 90 minute session, that time is evenly split between you (45 minutes each.)

Here, I’m interested in learning more about you as individuals.

So, I’ll ask about your reasons for coming to therapy, your family history, and attachment history (we tend to do relationships how we experienced our caregivers do them.)

Session two is also a good way for me and you to get to know each other better.

Session three: treatment plan

Here’s where I will outline a treatment plan based on the assessment from our first two sessions together.

I will feedback on what’s working well, and what could be improved.

For the “what can be improved,” I’ll share exactly what works to do that, and begin helping you implement effective tools to make it happen.

Yes, this is where we get down to work.

Each session that follows will pick up from the last, and also give us regular check-ins to see how you two are doing.

Bottom line?

I am a solution focused therapist.

When you work with me, we –all 3– get to stand on the shoulders of giants.

Those giants = over 42 years worth of research, which tells us what works and what doesn’t work in relationships.

So, we will be guided by that research, and I will coach you accordingly to help you get the results you want.

(I am not guided by nebulous feelings or guesswork.)
